The Key of A, Flamenco Guitar
The diatonic chords of the key, major and natural minor, each linked to the grips this seat plays.
A major harmonises to A – Bm – C#m – D – E – F#m – G#°; A natural minor to Am – B° – C – Dm – Em – F – G.
Only part of flamenco lives in these two tables. The palos in the major mode, the alegrías among them, draw on the first; soleá, seguiriya and most bulerías sit in the flamenco mode, which neither table spells, and the compás pages realise each palo's own cadence in any key.
The guitar is the toque: the toque: it states the compás, marks the accents with the strumming hand, and closes each cycle on the chord the palo comes home to. A grip below is held for a run of counts rather than a bar — the strumming hand sounds it harder on the accented counts and lighter between them, so one shape can carry most of a cycle.
